nineteen twentieths

20 Weeks

38 Weeks - January 14, 2012

Baby fruit size: Watermelon

Milestones: The respiratory system continues to mature in preparation for that big first breath of air. Other than that, all systems are go and he's pretty much just growing from here on out.

Sex: Boy. Interestingly, on 3 separate occasions this past week, strangers have commented on my belly and said, "Let me guess, you're having a boy?"

Sleep: Sleep hasn't gotten much better, but I'm hoping to use my pre-baby maternity leave to play catch up on naps.

Stretch marks: No new discoveries since last week.

Weight: I've gained just about 21 pounds at this point.

Food cravings: ORANGE JUICE. Fried calamari. Grilled artichokes. Diet pop - this one came out of nowhere and I feel guilty every time I succumb to it thinking of the artificial sweeteners making their way into Eddie.

Food aversions: Nothing.

Other symptoms: My outie belly button is so sensitive! If it brushes up against something, I get that same creepy sensation as when you touch the inside of your belly button. Lots of Braxton Hicks contractions, nothing painful, my entire belly just gets tight and rock hard. Not a symptom, but at my 38 week OB visit, she gave us the option of scheduling an induction next Monday when I'd be 39 weeks and 2 days. Ed and I quickly decided to pass on that and wait to let him come on his own. The next possible induction date would be February 1 at which point I'd be 4 days overdue. Looks like one way or another, we'll have a baby 2 weeks from now!

Movement: He has definitely slowed down this week. When he does shift, though, I can feel it from my ribs all the way down into my pelvis.

Best moments: Last day of work! Celebrating the news of 2 friends' pregnancies with babies due this summer. The lobster roll and waffle fries at Sixteen.

What I miss: My old clothes. Bending over to put on my own shoes.

What I'm looking forward to: The excitement and surprise of feeling true labor signs and realizing it's all really happening. Making cupcakes this weekend.

Interesting how docs offer to schedule an induction before the due date. Mine did the same. Of course, our Peanut chose to come 8 days past his due date (and 1 day before his scheduled induction). You look great. by the way. It won't be much longer now!
