30 Weeks - November 19, 2011
Milestones: The brain is quickly developing and he is using all 5 senses; he responds to movement, sound, light and the food I eat; there are established sleep cycles, including dreaming; he's making faces, hiccuping, swallowing, breathing and sucking his thumb.
Sex: Boy.
Sleep: It's been OK. The last couple of weeks I've been waking up like clockwork at 5 am, unable to fall back asleep for about an hour. The occasional middle-of-the-night charley horse has provided some unwelcome wakeup calls also. But otherwise, sleep is still pretty comfortable.
Weight: About 15 pounds gained so far. The baby is about 3 1/2 of that.
Food cravings: Toast with butter and strawberry jam. Baked sweet potatoes. Bacon, egg and cheese biscuits from McDonald's.
Food aversions: There's nothing that I don't want to eat, but the way my uterus has been smooshing my stomach lately, it's tough to get through a full meal without feeling like I'm going to burst. 7 months pregnant Thanksgiving is not going to be as much fun as I anticipated. Besides that, heartburn has arrived. I now carry Tums in my purse.
Movement: Lots of moving around in there. My most recent appointment confirmed that he's head down already, so those are definitely kicks I'm feeling right under my ribs!
Best moments: Making progress on the nursery. Girls' weekend in New York with Betsy and Maria. 20 minute massages at the beginning of every physical therapy session. Childbirth class at the hospital with Ed.
What I'm looking forward to: Upcoming showers. Thanksgiving in Ohio. 32 week ultrasound. The season premiere of One Born Every Minute.
Other symptoms: At about 27 weeks, I started experiencing sharp pains in my butt and tailbone that progressed to the point where I struggled to walk. A trip to my OB and a physical therapist resulted in a diagnosis of sacroiliac joint dysfunction, common in pregnancy. Their advice - stop running, do Kegels every day, get PT twice a week and wear this really awesome belt while walking. I'm happy to report that it's working and at 30 weeks, things are so much better. Other than that, I've been incredibly emotional - like cry when I watch The Office and hear Hark the Herald Angels Sing playing emotional - and have an addiction to online shopping. Can I blame that on pregnancy?
What I miss: Running, working out and feeling athletic and strong.
