Seating charts

Once everyone had a few cocktails and bites to eat, it was time to head indoors for dinner. And to do that, they needed to know where to sit.

Early on, I knew I didn't want to do individual seating cards. I tossed around a unique idea for a seating chart, but soon realized it was just too much work. I ended up doing a grouping of different frames that listed guests names and their table numbers alphabetically.

Materials:

-Frames - I picked up the 9 frames during several trips to Marshalls. I was looking for varying sizes and a mix of simple and Rococo styles. The color didn't matter because I would be painting them white.
-White spray paint - purchased by my mom in Ohio
-Chevron and yellow frame mats - paper leftover from lining our STDs and invitations.
-Paper for names/table #s - 8 1/2 x 11 cover weight paper in pure white from PS
-Tickets & Tags corner hole punch from PS
-Glue stick
-Soft grip knife from PS

My plan of attack:

Part I - spray paint frames, cut and insert mats

I was hoping to get Part I completed as soon as possible. It took longer than expected, however, because I had to wait for the perfect environmental conditions:

  • Low humidity
  • No rain
  • Ed out of town (you know, with his aversion to messes and all)

But I finally got around to applying several coats of paint to all the frames. And our balcony.

Part II - print, cut and corner punch names/table #s and insert into frames

Once our RSVPs had rolled in and everyone had been assigned a table, I laid out each of the frames in the order I wanted and updated the list of names/table #s so they would be evenly spaced within the 9 frames.

At the Chicago Illuminating Company, the frames were set up in the alleyway guests walked through on their way to cocktail hour.

I have to say, this is probably my favorite of all the DIY/paper projects I attempted for this wedding. They turned out even better than I pictured in my head.
